Bittersweet Song
Gosh.. this song feels so sad and yet if you see the singer, she’s smiling. Reference to the lyrics tell a story that the person cries thinking of the times that she had a meal with a loved one. Chiisana Hitotsubu is really a unique song, portraying a bittersweet feeling.
From the music composition side, it is quite obvious that the song started out with a sad minor scale, and then enter the happy major scale, only to end again with the same sad minor scale it started out with.
It’s great when I get to understand the emotions that the singer’s voice, lyrics and instruments try to bring to the listener. And when we learn things like these as we analyse songs, gosh it gives us a better appreciation of the whole music. This is especially true when all the small parts combine to give the big picture.
